During summer 2011, two colleagues at Loyola University in New Orleans were redesigning the literary journal, “New Orleans Review.” I’ve spent a lot of time working with the design department at Loyola and, as a favor, I agreed to design some pages for a special insert in the debut of the redesigned publication.
While planning out the project I found myself in collecting mode — not unusual for me — and had been amassing early nineteenth and twentieth-century postcards which featured nighttime, moonlit scenes.
The result was an eight-page meditation on place, travel, and longing.
